The Swillington Beck Project

Return to The Home Page

Swillington people were fed up of their beck always being full of rubbish. They grouped together to raise money for labour and materials. They raised £7,000, which paid for materials, my time, and employed two local unemployed people, for real money, over a three month period. This project successfully restored the quality of the environment and the water quality along 1.5 miles of stream. This gave rise to an increase in invertebrate species, which were eaten by the stickle backs, which became food for the King Fisher. The King Fisher had not been seen along the stream for 20 years.

Water Quality Tests Before                    and             After work took place
